Regional Specialists

Child Care Resource and Referral offers a behavior specialist, a school-age specialist and an infant/toddler specialist to help providers in Region 1, which includes Bertie, Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Hertford, Northampton, Pasquotank and Perquimans counties.

Kari StringerKari Stringer is CCR&R's regional behavior specialist. The goal of the behavior specialist is to provide support for early care providers who have concerns about negative behavior in their facility. Services of the behavior specialist include observations and recommendations to help teachers with specific behavior issues; ideas for creating an environment that minimizes behavior problems; assessments and evaluations of children and the development of behavior management plans. In addition, training workshops on a variety of behavior-related issues are provided at various times and locations throughout the 10-county region. Patrice HughesPatrice Hughes is CCR&R's infant/toddler specialist. She's available to help child care providers who care for infants and toddlers. On-site visits and consultations about specific issues regarding the care of infants and toddlers can be arranged, along with assistance in curriculum planning and ideas for developmentally appropriate games and creative activities. Hughes also offers Infant/Toddler Safe Sleep/SIDS training, which is required for providers who care for infants and toddlers. Other trainings on topics such as activities for babies and toddlers, establishing routines and ideas for creating a safe, stimulating environment are scheduled at various times and locations throughout Region 1. Regional school-age specialist (position currently vacant)
The goal of the school-age specialist is to provide support for child care providers who work with school-age children and to help them provide the best possible care for children between the ages of 5 and 12 who are enrolled in after-school and summer programs. The school-age specialist can help providers create appropriate indoor and outdoor learning environments, offer suggestions for lesson plans and creative activities, and provide support and information on a variety of issues relating to school-age children. Child care facilities that care for school-age children are required to complete BSAC-training, or Basic School Age Care, which is offered at various times and locations throughout the 10-county region.
