Behavior and Inclusion Specialist

Patti Messick is Albemarle Smart Start’s Behavior Inclusion Specialist. The goal of the behavior inclusion specialist is to provide one-on-one assistance for early care providers in meeting the needs of children with special needs and challenging behaviors in their facility. Services of the specialist include observations and recommendations to help teachers with specific children and behavior issues; ideas for room arrangement that maximizes success for all children in the classroom; assessments and evaluations of children; referral for early intervention services; and the development of targeted plans to meet the children’s needs. In addition, training workshops are provided at various times and locations throughout Camden, Currituck, Bertie, Gates and Pasquotank counties.
